Atlanta police Officer Maximilian Brewer is recovering at Grady Memorial Hospital after being struck by an ATV late Saturday night. Brewer was struck down while helping with traffic control in the downtown Atlanta area during the second night of protesting after the controversial arrest and death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25.

82 of the protesters who were arrested during the first weekend of protests against racial injustice and police brutality in Atlanta were booked in Fulton County jail. As some of the protests became violent leaders some local leaders suggested that most of the people causing the violence were from outside the state of Georgia.

Police around Georgia have joined other police forces across the U.S. in condemning Minneapolis four police officers who arrested George Floyd on May 25. Floyd, an unarmed Black man, was arrested for allegedly trying to purchase cigarettes with a counterfeit $20 bill at a convenience store. During the arrest, one of the officers had Floyd pinned to the ground and placed his knee on the back of Floyd’s neck for more than eight and a half minutes. Floyd later died in police custody as a result of the injuries he sustained during the arrest.

The Southern Center for Human Rights and the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia filed a lawsuit against Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill Wednesday for refusing to disclose documents related to COVID-19 testing in Clayton County jails.
